Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about working with a night nanny.

Getting Started

What does a typical night look like with a night nanny?

A typical shift runs from around 10 PM to 7 AM. When we arrive, we'll do a quick handoff — you'll let us know about feedings, any concerns, and your preferences for the night. From there, we handle all overnight feedings (bottle or bringing baby to you for breastfeeding), diaper changes, soothing, and gentle sleep shaping. You'll wake up to a rested baby and a brief summary of how the night went, including feeding times and any notes.

How do I prepare for the first night?

Before the first night, we'll have a consultation (phone or in-person) to discuss your baby's routine, feeding preferences, any medical considerations, and your goals. We'll ask you to have essentials ready — bottles, formula or expressed milk if applicable, diapers, wipes, a safe sleep space, and a change of clothes for baby. We'll handle the rest!

What's the difference between a night nanny and a postpartum doula?

A night nanny (or Newborn Care Specialist) focuses specifically on the baby's overnight care — feeding, soothing, diaper changes, and sleep shaping. A postpartum doula provides broader support for the entire family, which may include light housework, meal prep, emotional support, and some baby care. We specialize as Newborn Care Specialists, providing expert-level infant care with a focus on helping your baby develop healthy sleep habits.

Feeding

How do you handle breastfeeding support at night?

If you're breastfeeding, we'll bring baby to you when it's time to nurse, handle burping, diaper changes, and settling baby back to sleep so you can get right back to rest. If you're pumping, we can handle bottle feeds with expressed milk overnight. We also support combo-feeding families and can help with paced bottle feeding techniques to protect the breastfeeding relationship.

What if my baby only breastfeeds — can you still help?

Absolutely! Many of the families we work with are exclusively breastfeeding. We'll bring baby to you for nursing, then take over everything else — burping, changing, and soothing baby back to sleep. This means you're only awake for the feeding itself, which makes a huge difference in how rested you feel. We can also help you work toward introducing a bottle if that's a goal.

Safety & Trust

What safety measures are in place?

Safety is our top priority. We're CPR and First Aid certified, fully insured, and have passed a comprehensive background check. We follow all AAP safe sleep guidelines, including placing baby on their back on a firm, flat surface with no loose bedding. We stay awake and alert throughout the entire shift to monitor your baby.

Do you provide references?

Yes, we're happy to provide references from previous families we've worked with. We also have testimonials available on this website. Building trust is essential in this line of work, and we want you to feel completely confident in your decision to bring us into your home.

Specialized Care

Can you help with twins, triplets, or multiples?

Yes! We have experience caring for multiples and understand the unique challenges they bring — staggered feeding schedules, synchronized sleep routines, and the extra hands needed overnight. Families with multiples often see the biggest benefit from overnight support. Pricing may be adjusted slightly for multiples to reflect the additional care involved.

Do you support special needs babies?

Yes, we have experience supporting babies with a range of special needs, including premature infants, babies with reflux, colic, or feeding difficulties, and those requiring medical equipment monitoring. We work closely with parents and any medical professionals involved to ensure consistent, safe, and compassionate care tailored to your baby's specific needs.

Logistics

What areas do you serve?

We're based in Las Vegas, NV and serve the greater Las Vegas valley, including Henderson, Summerlin, North Las Vegas, and surrounding communities. Please reach out through the contact form, and we'll confirm availability in your area. We're happy to travel throughout the valley and may accommodate further locations for multi-night bookings.

How far in advance should I book?

We recommend booking as early as possible — many families reach out during pregnancy, typically in the second or third trimester. This ensures availability around your due date. However, we do accommodate last-minute requests when our schedule allows, so don't hesitate to reach out even if your baby has already arrived.

What is your cancellation policy?

We understand that life with a newborn is unpredictable. Cancellations made 48 hours or more before a scheduled shift are fully refundable. Cancellations within 24-48 hours are subject to a 50% charge. Same-day cancellations are charged in full. Exceptions are made for medical emergencies on a case-by-case basis.

Services

Do you offer daytime consultations or just overnight?

While our core service is overnight care, we also offer daytime newborn care consultations. These sessions cover topics like safe sleep practices, feeding strategies, soothing techniques, and establishing healthy routines. Daytime consultations are a great option for families who want guidance but may not need overnight support.

Do you help with sleep training or establishing a schedule?

We practice gentle sleep shaping — not rigid sleep training. This means we work with your baby's natural cues to encourage healthy sleep habits over time, like consistent bedtime routines, self-soothing techniques, and age-appropriate wake windows. We'll also help you establish a feeding and sleep schedule that works for your household, and we're always guided by your parenting preferences.

What happens at the end of each shift?

At the end of every overnight shift, we provide a detailed morning report covering how the night went — feeding times and amounts, diaper changes, sleep stretches, and any observations about your baby's behavior or development. This helps you stay informed and gives your pediatrician useful data at checkups. We'll also do a quick handoff to go over anything noteworthy before we head out.

Pricing

How much does overnight care cost?

Our hourly rate ranges from $30–40 per hour, depending on the number of babies, special needs, and specific care requirements. Each overnight booking requires a minimum 8-hour shift. We also offer discounted rates for families who book three or more nights per week. Contact us for a personalized quote based on your family's needs.

What are your hours?

Our standard overnight shift runs from 10 PM to 7 AM, though we're flexible and can adjust start and end times to fit your family's schedule. We're available seven nights a week for overnight care. For daytime consultations, we schedule those Monday through Friday between 9 AM and 5 PM.

Is there a minimum booking requirement?

Yes, each overnight booking requires a minimum 8-hour shift to ensure your baby receives consistent, uninterrupted care throughout the night. There's no minimum number of nights per week — you can book as many or as few nights as your family needs.

Do you offer package deals or discounts for multiple nights?

Yes! Families who book three or more nights per week receive a discounted hourly rate. This is our most popular option for families who want ongoing support during those early weeks and months. We also offer flexible scheduling so you can adjust the number of nights as your needs change.

Is there an extra charge for multiples or special needs?

Pricing may be adjusted slightly for twins, triplets, or babies with special care needs to reflect the additional attention and expertise required. We'll discuss this during your free consultation so there are no surprises — our goal is to be completely transparent about costs upfront.

Do you charge for the initial consultation?

No — the initial consultation is completely free with no obligation. It's an opportunity for us to learn about your family's needs, answer your questions, and make sure we're the right fit. We can do this over the phone, by video call, or in person.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards, debit cards, Venmo, Zelle, and bank transfers. Payment is typically collected after each shift or on a weekly basis for recurring bookings. We'll work with you to find a payment schedule that's convenient for your family.
